We opposed pieces of legislation that intended to weaken our state’s food safety regulations. In 2003, Governor Dave Freudenthal made food safety a top priority by creating the Governor’s Food Safety Taskforce, and our members actively participate in that taskforce. However, in recent years, certain policymakers and members of the public have been advocating for legislation that weakens our state’s food safety regulations. Over the past three years, we have opposed several pieces of legislation that aim to weaken our state’s food safety measures and that will put more people at risk of foodborne illness. Collectively and individually, our members work to educate policymakers and the public about the importance of strong food safety regulations and public health’s role in controlling foodborne illness.
